Going Green with Electric Forklifts

There is little doubt that the world is looking for cleaner and more responsible products to use in nearly every facet of life, but a warehouse may not be the first place you’d expect environmentally-friendly technology to emerge. But think again! Yes, even the forklift industry is caught up in the green initiative with electric forklifts. In addition to offering cost and performance benefits, electric forklifts enable companies a way to enhance their environmental profile. Here are some of the ways electric forklifts help facilities go green.

Decrease emissions: For every 10,000 hours of use, internal combustion (IC) engine-powered forklifts emit 120,000 more pounds of carbon emissions than electric-powered forklifts, according to EPRI. Electric forklifts stop over a million pounds of pollution from ever entering the atmosphere.

Reduce energy usage: Electric forklifts also generate very little heat, compared to IC forklifts. This reduces the strain on warehouse temperature-control units and the cost for cooling and air conditioning.

Minimize waste: With electric forklifts, there are no engine, transmission or coolant fluid changes and no need to dispose of used fluids, oil and filters. Furthermore, batteries may be recycled. More than 98 percent of all battery lead is recycled.

There has never been a better time to “go green” and take advantage of the advancements made in operating an electric forklift fleet. For more information on the cost benefits of electric forklifts, click here.
