National Forklift Safety Day
Safe forklift practices are important every day to protect employees, equipment and materials, but one day each year we recognize National Forklift Safety Day. It serves as a focal point to highlight the safe use of forklifts and the importance of operator training. This special day provides an opportunity for the industry to educate operators, the public, and government officials about safe forklift operation.
The following are specific events for enhancing awareness and renewing commitment to forklift safety:
For the government:
National Forklift Safety day, sponsored by the Industrial Truck Association, features keynote speakers from OSHA, the National Safety Council, the Chairman of the Congressional Subcommittee having jurisdictional oversight for OSHA, and key industry representatives in Washington DC on June 14, 2016.
The Raymond Corporation is a proud supporter of National Forklift Safety Day and offers year-round training programs conducted and facilitated by certified local Sales and Service Centers like Andersen Material Handling in Michigan, Northern Ohio and Southern Florida.
For Operators:
“Safety on the Move” operator training features classroom style and hands-on forklift training. Operators learn and discuss best practices, watch certified instructors demonstrate and then practice on the specific equipment they will operate until they master the skills needed. (OSHA standard 1910.178(l) compliant)
For Pedestrians:
“Steps to Safety” training program teaches pedestrians how to act responsibly in environments where lift trucks are in operation to create a more secure, productive environment. Pedestrians learn best-practice concepts and behaviors to prevent injury, gain environmental awareness and visual communication skills.
